EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The University of Oregon student charged with manslaughter and drunken driving in the crash that killed another UO student pleaded not guilty Tuesday at the Lane County Courthouse.

The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/RZfVSG ) Patrick Joseph Compton is released while awaiting trial. He’s required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and submit to unannounced breath tests.

Eugene police say the 21-year-old from Beaverton struck 24-year-old Craig Macfie of Edinburgh, Scotland, from behind on Nov. 18 as he rode a bicycle.

If convicted of manslaughter Compton would face a mandatory six years in prison.
