Vancouver Police make plans to shop with local children
Wednesday, December 7, 2011
Officers with the Vancouver Police Department will take needy kids on shopping sprees at two community events on Saturday.
The Vancouver Police Officers Guild will hold its 19th annual Shop with a Cop event at the Vancouver Plaza Target.
Also Saturday, the eighth annual Nautilus Holiday Helper event will take place at the Target store at the corner of Mill Plain Boulevard and 164th Avenue at 6 a.m.
Officers and police employees are paired with children to help them buy gifts for themselves and families. Both stores will also have gift-wrapping stations.
Police work with local social service agencies — including the Department of Social and Health Services, Share, Safechoice and the Vancouver Police Activities League — to choose the kids who participate in the events.
The events are not open to the general public.
