Letter: Make a pledge to the people

The Columbian
Published: December 13, 2011, 4:00pm

What is with our Republican Rep. Jamie Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, signing a “no new taxes” pledge to conservative lobbyist Grover Norquist? Why this unethical behavior of an elected representative? Herrera Beutler took an oath of office pledging to represent the people, not vested interests.

This behavior by her and other Republicans should be a reason to throw them out of office. With 37,000 lobbyists buying elected representatives, we don’t need pledges to the Grover Norquists of the world or anybody else but those who elected them.
