Talking Points

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Without a doubt, Friday was a bad day for fans of the Trail Blazers.

Could it be that the most disturbing news flew under the radar?

A story in the Seattle Times revealed that the city of Seattle has been approached by a group hoping to build a basketball arena near Safeco Field.

Sure, it’s a long way from becoming the reality. And it’s an even longer shot to imagine the Trail Blazers moving north.

Still, in the David Stern Basketball Association, there is one thing that has become abundantly clear: Fan loyalty doesn’t mean squat.

We have our fingers crossed that Sid the Kid will be OK.

Sidney Crosby, the 24-year-old hockey dynamo for the Pittsburgh Penguins, is on the shelf again because of concussion symptoms.

Probably the best player in hockey, Crosby missed the second half of last season and the first 20 games of this season because of concussion symptoms.

A relapse is scary.

For hockey fans, it’s scary to think that the career of one of the sport’s genuine stars might be cut short.

Given the emerging evidence of the devastating long-term impact concussions can have, it must be particularly scary for Crosby.
