Rian Bassett connected on five of Columbia River’s 11 3-pointers as the Chieftains pulled away for the easy 3A GSHL victory.

Bassett scored 13 of his 23 points in the second quarter when the Chieftains took command. He and Isaiah Smith combined for 20 points in the quarters.

Smith finished with 15 points. Devin Bolds added eight.

The Chieftains took what Prairie’s zone defense gave them, and it worked much of the night.

“We knew that was coming, and we shot it well,” River coach David Long said.

River outscored Prairie by 25 points in the final three quarters.

Ryan Denny led the Falcons with 15 points. Andy Hak added nine.

Next for Columbia River (5-1, 2-0) is three non-league games in three nights next week in Salem, Ore. The Chieftains will face Mark Morris, Scappoose, and Dayton.
