Clark women take opener of crossover

Penguins defeat Blue Mountain

The Clark College women’s basketball team won its opening game of its crossover tournament Friday, downing Blue Mountain 75-65 at the O’Connell Center.

Skyview High grad Macy Mukensnabl led the Penguins with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Deborah Simmers scored 16 points, and Chelsea Dyson had 14 points and nine assists as Clark improved to 4-3 on the season.

Blue Mountain of Pendleton, Ore., was led by Stephanie Lopez’ 33 points.

The Penguins face Mt. Hood at 6 p.m. Saturday in the semifinal round. Mt. Hood was a 68-62 winner over Everett.

In the upper bracket, Walla Walla defeated Lower Columbia 66-44, and Umpqua defeated Whatcom 69-55.

Walla Walla and Umpqua play the first semifinal at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Consolation games are at noon and 2 p.m.

Sunday’s final round begins at noon with the fourth-place game. The third-place game is at 2 p.m. and the championship at 4 p.m.
