Woodland port OKs a budget that cuts property tax

The Port of Woodland Board of Commissioners adopted a budget Thursday that reduces the property tax the port collects by 9 percent. The board increased the port’s overall budget by about 7 percent — from $991,000 this year to $1.06 million for 2012.

The port’s 2012 spending plan includes maintenance and repairs at the Down River Drive Industrial Park and a road improvement project in the light industrial area.

Revenue from tenant rents will allow it to collect less in taxes. New tenants it attracted this year include Noahs Ark, a charter bus company that moved into the port’s 17,700-square-foot building on Schurman Way.

Port commissioners approved a tax levy of $200,000 for 2012, roughly $16,000 less than this year. That reduces the tax rate from 19 cents per $1,000 of assessed value in 2011 to 18 cents per $1,000 in 2012.
