Junior hockey report, Dec. 23

PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS

Where they stand: At 21-11-2-1 (45 points), the Winterhawks are second in the U.S. Division behind Tri-City (27-7-0-0, 54 points).

This week: The Winterhawks return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 28 with a game in the Rose Garden against Victoria, beginning a stretch of seven of eight games at home. They also play in the Rose Garden on Dec. 30 (Victoria) and Dec. 31 (Seattle).

Last week: Portland won 8-6 at Spokane on Dec. 17.

Player of the week: Brad Ross had two goals and two assists in the win at Spokane.

VANCOUVER VICTORY

Where they stand: At 13-12-2 (28 points), the Victory are tied for third place in the seven-team NORPAC. Fifth-place Eugene is two points back, but has played five fewer games.

This week: The league is off for the holiday break, Vancouver resumes play on Dec. 30 at Bremerton against West Sound and is home on New Year’s Day against West Sound.

Last week: Vancouver beat visiting Glacier 5-2 and 4-3 in its first home games after six consecutive on the road.
