Police charge man in Salem motel killing

SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- Police say a 22-year-old man has been jailed on a murder charge in a killing at a Salem motel, and another man has been arrested.

The police identified the suspect Tuesday as Hugh Crow II and said the victim was attacked in a motel room where he'd been placed by a social service agency.

Police say Crow was booked on charges of murder, burglary and parole violation.

Police say the second man, 55-year-old Lee Rakow (Ruh-KOH), was accused of burglary and parole violation.

Both are described as Salem-area transients. Police said Crow was in the room when they arrived Monday night after a call about a disturbance.

The police withheld the name of the victim until family members could be located.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
