Charleston Southern surges past Erskine 96-69

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Arlon Harper scored 22 points and Kelvin Martin had 20 points and 10 rebounds as Charleston Southern shot 70.4 percent in the second half to pull away from Erskine 96-69 Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers (8-4) trailed by seven in the first half and took a 42-41 lead into halftime against the Division II Flying Fleet (1-7).

Tied at 52 with 15:26 to go, Charleston Southern used a 36-8 run to lead by 28 with 3:49 to play.

The Buccaneers made 19 of 27 field goals after halftime, including 10 of 15 3-pointers. Charleston Southern hit 13 of 26 3-pointers for the game.

Martin, who came in ranked third in the Big South Conference with 8.7 rebounds per game, moved into the Top 10 in league history with his first board of the night and now has 792.

Mike Gabbard scored 21, Corey Sorrell 18 and Casey Sorrell 12 for Erskine.
