CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Harouna Mutombo scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Western Carolina to an 86-67 victory over UNC Asheville on Wednesday night.
Brandon Boggs added 17 points for the Catamounts (7-6), 14 of them in the first half. He scored seven points during a 26-7 run in which Western Carolina, after trailing 9-7 early, took a 33-16 lead with 3:50 remaining until halftime.
Keaton Cole had 13 points for the Catamounts, including a pair of 3-pointers during their big first-half run.
Matt Dickey scored 23 points, including 14 in the first half, to lead the Bulldogs (6-6), who never got closer than eight points in the second half. Jeremy Atkinson added 16 points and Chris Stephenson had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
J.P. Primm, who scored 26 points last season in UNC Asheville’s 85-79 overtime win over Western Carolina, was held to six points this time.
