Bellingham cleans park, Occupy to sue city

The Columbian
Published:

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — City workers have finished cleaning up a park where Occupy Bellingham camped for weeks, and protesters are vowing to sue after getting evicted.

The Bellingham Herald reports that city officials say the damage to Maritime Heritage Park was minimal and that it cost more than $4,000 to clean up.

About 50 Bellingham police officers in riot gear evicted the 40 or so protesters on Wednesday. Four were arrested.

Occupy Bellingham attorney Larry Hildes says protesters are angry at the city’s response and are planning a lawsuit. He says Bellingham is the type of city where police don’t need riot gear.
