Clark Public Utilities warns of prank calls

Clark Public Utilities is warning customers to beware of prank or scam phone calls in the early morning hours.

Several people have recently reported getting calls between 2 and 4 a.m. from the utility’s customer service phone number, a Clark Public Utilities release said. The caller claims to be from the city of Vancouver or utility department and says he or she will turn off the customer’s electricity to perform maintenance.

The calls aren’t from Clark Public Utilities or the city and appear to be a “hoax or prank,” said Erica Erland, spokeswoman for Clark Public Utilities. She hasn’t heard any reports of anything happening after the phone calls, she said.

“We’ve alerted our customer service reps and posted information to our Facebook page but, given that some cities have recently experienced various scams with burglars posing as utility workers, etc., we want to make sure our customers know that any calls they receive late at night or in the early morning hours claiming to be from Clark Public Utilities are not legitimate,” Erland said.

Customers can call 360-992-3000 to speak with customer service representatives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
