Milwaukee hangs on, beats Valparaiso 57-55

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Kaylon Williams narrowly missed a triple-double, garnering 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, helping Wisconsin-Milwaukee beat Valparaiso 57-55 Thursday night.

Milwaukee (10-4) trailed 10-2 at the 14:24 mark before tying the game on a 3-pointer by Tony Meier and taking a 16-14 lead on James Haarsma’s layup with 9:30 left in the first half. Milwaukee trailed again, 28-22, in the first half’s final three minutes, but scored five straight points to stake itself to a 28-27 halftime disadvantage.

Valparaiso (8-6) led the entire second half until Ryan Allen nailed a jumper to give Milwaukee a 42-40 lead with 7:35 remaining. Milwaukee trailed once the rest of the game.

Valparaiso lost despite shooting a scorching 58.8 percent from the field in the game and was led by Ryan Broekhoff’s double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Meier led Milwaukee with 17 points and Haarsma added 12.
