VERNON, Conn. (AP) — The lawyer for a man charged in a fight that led to the stabbing death of a University of Connecticut football player says his client could receive probation.
A pretrial hearing in the case against 23-year-old Johnny Hood of Hartford is scheduled for Tuesday at Rockville Superior Court.
Hood faces misdemeanor charges of breach of peace and interfering with police in connection with the October 2009 fight in Storrs that killed football player Jasper Howard.
The accused killer, John Lomax III of Bloomfield, pleaded no contest to manslaughter and awaits sentencing.
Hood’s lawyer, Justin Freeman, says he’s hoping for a final action in Hood’s case Tuesday. He says accelerated rehabilitation is a possibility. The program allows charges to be dropped after a probation period.
