NEW YORK (AP) — New Jersey Nets coach Avery Johnson has been fined $25,000 for improper conduct toward an official during a game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

NBA vice president Stu Jackson announced the fine on Friday.

Johnson was ejected with 7:47 left in the third quarter Wednesday night after being hit with two technical fouls. Johnson argued a foul should have been called when Elton Brand tried to strip the ball from the Nets’ Devin Harris. Replays appeared to show Brand missing the ball.

Johnson argued with official Brent Barnaky and got tossed for the first time as the Nets’ coach, walking off the court to chants of “Avery, Avery, Avery.”

The Nets lost the game, 106-92.
