Susan Finley, associate professor of teaching and learning at Washington State University Vancouver, is one of four recipients of the annual Sahlin awards given to WSU faculty members.

She will be honored March 25 at the 2010-11 Showcase celebration of excellence in Pullman.

Finley earned the Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award for Outreach and Engagement.

She has won regional, national and international recognition for her work to provide high quality educational opportunities to individuals across Washington who must overcome financial or sociocultural barriers.

Finley directs the At Home At School program, which she created, with a curriculum designed to reach underserved or neglected pockets of students. It serves more than 600 children each year in Washington while providing a unique blend of research, teaching and service.

Her research and many presentations have served as a model and affected poverty-oriented educational programs across the country. She has recruited and mentored WSUV teacher education students to help with the development and delivery of courses to underrepresented children, capable of providing a life-changing boost.
