PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Police say a roadside bomb targeting a police vehicle has killed an officer and wounded three people in northwestern Pakistan.

Police officer Amir Sultan Khan said the bomb was detonated by remote control Tuesday in the Pir Bala area near the northwestern city of Peshawar.

No one immediately claimed responsibility, but militants often carry out such attacks to avenge military offensives against them in the country’s tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.

Peshawar is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
