GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) — Bode Miller took some time off so he’d be fresh heading into the world championships.
He spent time with his daughter in San Diego, returned to the World Cup circuit with a third-place finish in the super-G on Saturday in Austria and watched the Super Bowl.
Miller has a chance for a strong finish in the super-G on Wednesday, which kicks off the men’s schedule at worlds in Germany. The leader in the discipline Georg Streitberger is out with an injury. It opens a field that includes defending champion Didier Cuche of Switzerland and Olympic champion Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway.
There’s been five different winners in five super-G races this season.
Miller plans to compete in four disciplines at worlds, and the only event he hasn’t won is the slalom.
