SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — Spokane Valley police say a man stabbed his brother in a dispute over family heirlooms.

The 46-year-old victim was in a Spokane hospital early Wednesday in serious condition. Officers jailed his 49-year-old brother for investigation of attempted murder.

Police say the victim’s girlfriend called 911 late Tuesday. She said her boyfriend’s brother had been released from jail earlier in the day and came over for a visit. The two brothers began arguing over heirlooms and division of property and ended up fighting.

Police seized a bloody 4-inch folding knife as evidence.
