Boston Marathon announces elite runner field

BOSTON (AP) — Reigning champions Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot of Kenya and Teyba Erkesso of Ethiopia will be back to defend their Boston Marathon crowns.

Organizers announced the elite field of runners Thursday. The 115th race is April 18.

Cheruiyot won last year with a men’s course record 2 hours, 5 minutes and 52 seconds, while Erkesso took the women’s title in 2:26:11.

Some of the other top men include Geoffrey Mutai, Ryan Hall, Gilbert Yegon, Tadese Tola, Evans Cheruiyot and 2010 New York City champion Gebregziabher Gebremariam.

The women’s field includes last year’s runner-up, Tatyana Pushkareva, and past champions Salina Kosgei, Dire Tune and Catherine Ndereba.
