Northwestern State outlasts Lamar 70-68

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Will Pratt scored 21 points to lead Northwestern State to a Southland Conference win over Lamar 70-68 on Thursday.

The Demons (15-10, 7-3) held possession and a 69-67 lead with 16 seconds left to play before a steal by Lamar guard Kendrick Harris with 9 seconds to go. Harris was fouled and knocked down the first free throw.

Harris missed the second attempt and William Mosley grabbed the rebound to seal the victory for Northwestern State.

The Cardinals (9-14, 3-6) jumped out to a 20-2 lead less than 7 minutes into the opening half and held a 10-point advantage, 48-38, with 14:57 remaining in the game.

But the Demons shot 53.3 percent from the floor (16 of 30) after halftime and pulled ahead, 62-60, on a 3-pointer from Louis Ellis with 4:34 left.

Devon Lamb scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Lamar, which has lost five straight.
