MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Mychel Thompson scored 18 points, and Pepperdine held on in the final seconds for a 66-64 victory over Portland on Thursday night.

Lorne Jackson added 15 points and six assists for the Waves (11-16, 5-5 West Coast Conference), who won for the fourth time in six games.

Luke Sikma and Nemanja Mitrovic had 19 points apiece for the Pilots (17-8, 4-5), whose five-game winning streak at Pepperdine ended. Sikma had seven rebounds and became Portland’s all-time leader with 915.

Jackson made two free throws with 1:06 left to give the Waves a 65-63 lead. Sikma made 1 of 2 free throws with 52 seconds left to cut the lead to one. Portland got the ball back, but Pepperdine’s Gus Clardy rebounded a Pilot miss, was fouled and made a free throw with nine seconds left.

Mitrovic’s missed 3-point attempt was Portland’s last gasp.
