CARY, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man who took several hostages at a North Carolina bank was shot to death as he tried to leave with a woman at gunpoint.
Cary Police Chief Pat Bazemore says none of the hostages was injured during the three-hour standoff Thursday at the Wachovia branch in a Raleigh suburb.
Authorities say the standoff began after an attempted bank robbery and police quickly surrounded the branch. She says killing the suspect is not how authorities had hoped the standoff would end.
