A Vancouver man was injured Friday in a two-vehicle accident on Portland’s Ross Island Bridge that claimed the life of a Portland man, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Michael Grossnickle, 54, was reported in critical condition at an area hospital but is expected to survive his injuries, police reported Saturday.
Grossnickle was injured in a 12:30 p.m. crash when an oncoming driver lost control of his vehicle, possibly due to a medical problem, struck the side of the bridge with his car and crossed into the path of Grossnickle’s vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle, identified Saturday as 59-year-old Kurt Maul of Portland, died after the crash. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death, police said.
