Late basket propels Canisius past Rider 67-65

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Gaby Belardo hit a jumper with 8 seconds remaining and Canisius defeated Rider 67-65 on Friday night.

The game was tied eight times and neither team led by more than three points over the final 6 minutes.

Julius Coles scored 18 points, Greg Logins added 16 and Elton Frazier had 10 for the Golden Griffins (13-11, 6-8 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who won their third game in a row.

Rider led by eight points in the first half but Canisius rallied to tie the score at halftime. Rider started the second half on a 9-2 run to lead 41-34 with 16:32 to play. The Golden Griffins took their first lead of the half at 62-61 after a basket by Coles with 4:01 remaining.

Danny Stewart scored 17 points to lead Rider (17-9, 9-5), which lost at home in the series for the first time in 14 games. Mike Ringgold added 16 points and Novar Gadson had 12 for the Broncs.
