Portland — Now that Govs. Chris Gregoire and John Kitzhaber have agreed to kill the former design for a new Interstate 5 bridge, the chairman of a Bridge Expert Review Panel will outline three options for a new design during a public information session at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Tom Warne, a Utah-based transportation consultant, will present the three bridge types suggested by his panel: tied-arch, cable-stayed and composite deck truss.

The event will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Portland Expo Center, Hall D, 2060 N. Marine Drive.

Gregoire and Kitzhaber have ordered state transportation officials to select one of the options by the week of Feb. 21. Both governors are planning to visit Washington, D.C., for a meeting of the National Governors Association from Feb. 26-28. They plan on pressing the case for the Columbia River Crossing project in a meeting with U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. Gregoire chairs the governors association.
