PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A fire in a Portland apartment building has forced the evacuations of 50 people.

Firefighters immediately began rushed residents from the 36-unit building after arriving around 3 p.m. Sunday and finding a fire burning on the third floor.

Officials say no one was injured. Firefighters also rescue several pets, but one dog was killed.

The blaze was declared under control after about 45 minutes.

Fire officials say the blaze has left the building on NW Glisan Street temporarily uninhabitable.

The Red Cross was finding shelter for the displaced residents.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
