Oliver beats Liu in 60m hurdles

KARLSRUHE, Germany (AP) — David Oliver won the 60-meter hurdles at the Karlsruhe Indoors meet Sunday and former Olympic champion Liu Xiang placed third.

The American crossed in 7.40 seconds, ahead of France’s Dimitri Bascou in 7.53 with China’s Liu finishing in 7.55.

Lerone Clarke of Jamaica captured the 60 meters, finishing in 6.52 seconds to beat Marc Burns from Trinidad and Tobago (6.56).

Kellie Wells won the women’s 60 hurdles in the absence of world indoor champion Lolo Jones, finishing in 7.82 to beat Norway’s Christina Vukicevic (7.90) and Jamaica’s Vonette Dixon (7.98).

Kenyan Mercy Njoroge claimed the 3,000 in 8 minutes, 42.75 seconds, German David Gollnow won the 400 in 47.29 and Kenyan Bethwel Birgen took the 1,500 in 3:35.38.
