PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — A plea deal is in the works for a 25-year-old man accused of killing another man in a car crash near Hermiston.

The East Oregonian reports that Luis Lopez Morales has a court hearing Monday to change his plea. He had pleaded not guilty to one count of criminally negligent homicide and felony hit-and run charges.

Authorities say a passenger in the SUV he was driving, 33-year-old Moises Arroyo Hernandez of Umatilla, died when the vehicle sped out of control Dec. 19, crossed the center line and hit another SUV head-on. A 13-year-old passenger in that vehicle was seriously injured.

Authorities say Morales left the scene on foot, as did an injured passenger.
