Arkansas-Pine Bluff rallies for 72-62 victory

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Savalace Townsend scored 21 points, including 11 during a momentum-changing run in the second half, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff rallied to defeat Alcorn State 72-62 Monday night.

After trailing by 15 in the first half, the Golden Lions (6-19, 6-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference) overtook the Braves with a 21-2 run that turned a 42-31 deficit into a 52-44 lead with 7:59 to play. Townsend scored 10 straight for Arkansas-Pine Bluff during the run, and the Lions led the rest of the way.

Kendrick McDonald led the Braves (3-20, 3-10) with 14 points, and Marquiz Baker had 13.

Townsend was just 3 of 8 from the field but accounted for half of Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s 28 made free throws.

McDonald scored 10 points in the first half to help Alcorn State to a 30-15 advantage with 3:35 to play, but the Braves were outscored 51-30 in the second half.
