INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gene Smith and his NCAA tournament selection committee still will have to make tough calls this year.

While the tourney format has changed, little else has.

Smith, the group’s chairman, told reporters during a conference call Wednesday that committee members will rely on the same standards as in the past — even when it comes to choosing the last four at-large teams. Those four will have to play opening round-games for the first time next month.

And the decisions aren’t getting any easier.

Some thought the expansion from a 65-team field to 68 would help, but Smith insists that won’t be the case this time around.
