Vancouver is seeking nominations for its annual Mac Award, recognizing people, groups and businesses that have made a significant impact on Vancouver’s urban forest.

The second-annual Mac Award will be given by the Urban Forestry Commission during the city’s Arbor Day celebration Wednesday, April 13. Nomination forms are available on the city’s Urban Forestry website, http://www.cityofvancouver.us/urbanforestry, or by calling 360-487-8308. Forms must be submitted by March 8.

Established in 2010, the award is named for Gordon MacWilliams, a tree lover and Urban Forestry commissioner who passed away in 2009 after a life of service.

Activities worthy of the Mac Award may include: organizing tree plantings, educating others about the benefits of trees or proper tree care, preserving trees during land development, donating time and/or funds to advance the mission of the Urban Forestry program, developing creative partnerships in community forestry, or any other activity that inspires community stewardship of the urban forest.

For more information, contact Jessica Antoine, Urban Forestry outreach coordinator, at 360-487-8308 or jessica.antoine@cityofvancouver.us.
