BATTLE GROUND — Christian Wilcox is cooking his way to fame. The Yacolt fourth-grader was Grand Champion in Sodexo’s “Future Chefs Challenge” for making healthful snacks. His creation was “Stuffed Bells of the Sea,” which included red bell peppers stuffed with crab, prawns, Monterey jack cheese, mushrooms and other ingredients.

Third and fourth graders in the Battle Ground Public Schools had the opportunity to submit recipes for consideration in December. Twenty-two finalists were selected and gathered Feb. 2 at the Battle Ground High School kitchen to prepare their recipes for judging. Guests were allowed to view and sample the kids’ creations.

Wilcox will advance to a national competition.
