Arkansas responds to Pelphrey’s passion

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Mardracus Wade received a text message late last Friday night. When the Arkansas freshman guard looked down to see who it was from, he had a hard time believing what he was looking at.

The text was from Razorbacks coach John Pelphrey, and it was laced with equal parts encouragement and humor. It was exactly what Wade and the rest of his teammates needed to see while mired in a three-game losing streak that had crushed any momentum they had gained following a road win at Vanderbilt on Jan. 29.

Arkansas (16-9, 5-6 Southeastern Conference) has since responded to Pelphrey’s late-night motivation, beginning with a 80-61 win over LSU at home last Saturday.

The Razorbacks followed that up with their second straight win on Wednesday night.
