Savannah State rolls past Trinity Baptist 84-24

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Jovonni Shuler scored 18 points as Savannah State rolled past Trinity Baptist 84-24 on Thursday night.

Eleven Savannah State players scored as the Tigers (9-18) won for the seventh time in eight games. Cedric Smith scored 14 and Preston Blackmon added 10 points for Savannah State, which led 43-11 at halftime and outrebounded the Eagles 57-29.

Savannah State scored 64 of its 84 points in the paint, shooting 53.6 percent from the field (37 of 69).

Joshua Montgomery scored on a layup for a 29-4 lead with 10:16 left in the first half and Jyles Smith’s layup gave the Tigers a 39-9 lead with 1:59 left before halftime.

Keith Edwards’ layup gave the Tigers an 82-22 lead with 1:03 to play.

Trinity Baptist (17-10) shot just 15 percent from the field (9 of 60) and 9.5 percent from the 3-point line (2 of 21).

Tyler McNulty led Trinity Baptist with nine points.
