SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A Spokane County Superior Court judge has ruled that Cole Strandberg will be tried for murder in the crossbow-shooting death of a young woman.

Defense attorneys argued this week that Strandberg should not be tried because he is insane.

Judge Tari Eitzen on Thursday agreed that Strandberg was deeply troubled, but said she will leave it to a jury to decide if he was insane when the crime was committed.

During the sanity hearing, Strandberg was chained to the floor and wore a mask to prevent him from spitting on his attorneys.

Strandberg is charged with killing Jennifer Bergeron with a crossbow bolt.
