BOSTON (AP) — The Bruins traded Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler to the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday to make cap room for Tomas Kaberle, who came to Boston in a deal with Toronto.

The Bruins received Rich Peverley and Boris Valabik from the Thrashers.

Peverley has 14 goals and 20 assists in 59 games for the Thrashers this season. Wheeler has 11 goals and 16 assists for Boston, and Stuart has five points in 31 games this season.

Thrashers general manager Rick Dudley said the trade for Wheeler, a forward, and Stuart, a defenseman, improves the team “in both the short and long term.”

Peverley will join the Bruins in Boston on Sunday and Valabik will report to Providence of the AHL.
