MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota baseball team will play Big Ten home games at Target Field this season.
The school announced the decision Friday.
The Gophers reached an agreement to play 12 games at the Minnesota Twins’ new outdoor ballpark because the Metrodome’s fallen roof is being replaced and Siebert Field on campus is not considered suitable.
The Gophers inaugurated Target Field in a nonconference game against Louisiana Tech last March. Their first game there this year will be on April 1, a Friday doubleheader against Purdue.
Gophers coach John Anderson is grateful to the Twins, who “bent over backwards to help” make this work.
The Gophers had to relocate or cancel 19 nonconference games that were set for the Metrodome.
