Mellouli wins 200 freestyle, 400 IM at Missouri GP

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Olympic gold medalist Oussama Mellouli won the men’s 200-meter freestyle and the 400-meter individual medley at the Missouri Grand Prix on Friday.

Mellouli pulled away from the competition in the IM, winning by nearly 12 seconds with a time of 4:13.38. He posted a time of 1:47.03 to win the 200 free.

Rebecca Soni, current World Swimmer of the Year, set a pool-record time of 1:05.89 to win the women’s 100 breaststroke over current world record holder Jessica Hardy. Olympian Tara Kirk set the previous pool-best in 2008.

Defending Grand Prix Series champion Chloe Sutton took the women’s 200 freestyle in 1:59.38. She also finished fourth in the 400 IM.

Olympian Kathleen Hersey was disqualified after winning the women’s 100 butterfly due to a false start.
