GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — No vote yet on a California congressman’s attempt to block removal of dams on the Klamath River to help salmon.

Republican U.S. Rep. Tom McClintock has introduced amendments to the continuing resolution that would pay for running the federal government the rest of this fiscal year.

They would cut $1.9 million that is paying for research needed for Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to decide whether to go ahead with a landmark agreement to remove the four dams — one in Oregon and three in California.

A vote was expected Friday.

Oregon and California, farmers, Indian tribes, conservation groups and salmon fishermen negotiated for years to come up with the agreements to improve salmon habitat and give farmers greater assurances that irrigation water will not be cut off to save fish.
