Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey set off on a journey to reclaim a stolen treasure from a fearsome dragon in Christian Youth Theater’s production of “The Hobbit,” which opens this weekend.

The production is based on the classic novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.

When: 7 tonight, Friday and Feb. 26; 3 p.m. today and Feb. 26; and 2 p.m. Sunday and Feb. 27.

Where: Washougal High School’s Washburn Performing Arts Center, 1201 39th St., Washougal.

Admission: $12, and $9 for children and seniors. All tickets are $2 more at the door.

1. Slocum House mixes comedy, drama around the table

The Slocum House Theatre Company looks at everyday moments spent around the dining table in “The Dining Room.”

The production mixes drama and comedy by examining events such as a child’s birthday party and an aging mother’s loss of memory.

Each of the 18 scenes range from the comedic to the serious and explore the dynamic relationships of family life.

When: 8 tonight, Thursday, Friday and Feb. 26; and 2 p.m. Sunday and Feb. 27.

Admission: $13, and $11 for seniors 60 and older and children 12 and younger.

2. Giddy up at the Washington State Horse Expo

The first Washington State Horse Expo features more than 20 national, regional and state presenters. It includes an Extreme Cowboy Race, national clinicians and trainers, regional and local experts, resources on equine nutrition, health and wellness seminars, children’s activities, rescued horse education and several breed demonstrations.

There will be an Equine Extravaganza Show tonight as part of the festivities. The event, which includes equine performances set to music, live music, dancing and a beer garden, is at 8 p.m.

When: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Where: Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield.

Admission: General expo admission is $10, $8 for children 7-16, and free for children 6 and younger. Tickets $8 for the Equine Extravaganza Show.

3. New museum exhibit looks at the world of Curious George

Portland Children’s Museum’s latest exhibit encourages children to get curious. “Curious George: Let’s Get Curious!” opens today and continues through June 5.

The exhibit introduces children to the world of Curious George, leading them on an interactive math, science and engineering-based adventure while emphasizing the role that parents and caregivers play in a child’s life.

It includes activities for babies and toddlers, mini golf and hands-on activities such as a construction site and a sidewalk produce stand.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Sundays; and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays.

Where: 4015 S.W. Canyon Road, Portland.

Admission: $9; $8 for seniors 55 and older and active military members; and free for children younger than 1. There is a $2 parking fee.

4. Liam Neeson is ‘Unknown’ in latest film

Liam Neeson returns to the big screen in “Unknown,” which arrives in theaters this weekend.

Neeson plays a man who wakes up from a coma and discovers that his identity has been stolen. No one, including his wife, believes his story, so he sets out to prove who he really is.
