Authorities said no arrests had been made Sunday in the aftermath of a Saturday night shooting at a residence just north of the Bagley Downs neighborhood. The house has been the scene of two violent incidents in the past three months.

Two people were shot about 11:38 p.m. during a gathering at 4213 N.E. 38th St. Neither injury was life-threatening, said Sgt. Shane Gardner with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. He said the two victims are Cory S. Bloom and Sarah A. Godfrey. Gardner said both are about 22 years old.

In late November, 25-year-old Jeremy A. Wiese was found dead in a back bedroom of the house with a single gunshot wound to the head.

At that time, Clark County sheriff’s deputies and Vancouver police officers were called at 2:52 a.m. on a Saturday to a report of a possible suicide or accidental shooting.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Wiese had been showing a newly purchased .357-caliber revolver to his friend when he accidentally shot himself. The house was occupied by numerous adults who had been consuming alcohol at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

In last weekend’s incident, Gardner said “a small group of friends were gathered when a suspect entered the house unannounced, threw a duffle bag into the kitchen and fired off a round. The suspect then retreated out the door. Fearing an explosive device in the bag, Godfrey threw it back out the front door. The suspect then shot several more rounds toward the front door, wounding Godfrey and Bloom.”

Gardner did not say if the suspect is a man or woman and authorities were mum on the case Sunday. Neighbors said Godfrey indicated the shooter was a man.

Bloom was shot twice, in the hip and thigh. Godfrey was grazed in the calf. Both were treated at Southwest Washington Medical Center.

The Metro Explosives Disposal Unit was called out to examine the duffle bag. It was empty, Gardner said.

Witnesses said the suspect was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and a surgical mask.

Neighbors expressed anxiety on Sunday.

Joyce Land, 70, lives across the street from the house. She’s lived there for 22 years. The street is just off Falk Road, a block north of state Highway 500. Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School is about three blocks south.

“All we ever have is mail theft,” Land said of the street, her dog, Ginger, a peekapoo, beside her. “I woke up to boom, boom, boom. Rapid shots I heard, and a guy yelling.”

She said of the house, “There’s not loudness, but every weekend there’s a lot of cars.”

She said when she heard shots, “We just knew it was connected with that (house). I didn’t feel it was random.”

She said the house became a rental last year and was occupied about Halloween.

Another neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said, “There’s always a lot of activity there.” He said his house has been broken into in the past three months, there has been at least one other break-in on the street, and there have been at least a couple of car prowls.

He estimated there were 10 cars there on Saturday night.

He said he went to talk to Godfrey to see if he could help and she told him, “He got away in an SUV.”

No one answered at the house at 3:37 p.m. Sunday.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes unit is investigating the incident.
