Woodland school emergency radios to reach Yale, intermediate sites

WOODLAND — If an emergency hits, the Woodland School District is better prepared than ever to spread the word. That’s because Longview wireless company Cascade Networks, Inc., received a $5,000 grant from Educational Service District 112. The company is now providing space in one of its equipment locations for the Woodland School District’s radio repeater equipment — allowing radio contact between all its buildings and locations. Right now, radio and telephone communication is possible only between Woodland’s high, middle and primary schools; the Yale and intermediate schools cannot be reached by radio and must be called on the phone with emergency or other urgent information. Better radio communications will fill in blank spots in the school district’s emergency preparedness plan. The district will continue to seek additional grant funding, special training and equipment for this effort.
