A chimney fire flared out of control and sent out embers that ignited the roof of a house southeast of Yacolt near Moulton Falls Park on Monday afternoon.

Members of Fire District 13, based in Yacolt, were called to 36205 N.E. Sunset Falls Road about 4:10 p.m., said Assistant Chief Tom McDowell. When they arrived, flames had spread from the roof into the attic.

An occupant of the home tried dousing the fire with a garden hose. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and saved the home, which had just moderate damage, McDowell said.

No one was reported injured. About 10 firefighters worked at the scene, including some from nearby Fire District 3, based in Hockinson, and Fire District 10 from Amboy.

The home is owned by Marjorie English, according to county property records.
