Snow this week? Definitely maybe

Mountains to get heavy snow, valley prospect uncertain

Television forecasters are predicting snow this week, but will it reach the metro area? Definitely maybe, says the National Weather Service.

What does seem almost certain is heavy snow in the mountains, where the promising snowpack last November has dwindled much of the winter.

The weather service says a cold low pressure system will move from the north into the region by midweek, bringing showers and much cooler temperatures.

The snow level could drop to the valley floor by midweek, but uncertainty remains as to how fast the cold air moves in, and when and how much precipitation will come with it.

The weather service’s best guess is some snow on Wednesday night, with less than a half-inch accumulating. Rain and snow showers will follow for several days.
