London unveils sports test events ahead of 2012

LONDON (AP) — More than 40 test events will be held at Olympic venues ahead of next year’s London Games.

London organizers on Thursday released the full list of sports competitions that will be staged over the next 18 months to prepare for the Olympics.

Organizing committee chairman Sebastian Coe says “we can ‘road-test’ all our operational plans and make sure we have all the knowledge we need to deliver a truly memorable games in 2012.”

The first event to be held in the new 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium will be a track and field meet for British university and college athletes from May 4-7, 2012, less than three months before the opening ceremony on July 27.
