TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The jury in the trial of a man accused of shooting a Washington State Patrol trooper is expected to return a verdict Wednesday afternoon in Tacoma.

The Daily World of Aberdeen reported the case went to the jury Tuesday in Pierce County Superior Court.

Forty-six-year-old Martin A. Jones of Seaview is charged with attempted murder in the February 2010 shooting of Scott Johnson as the trooper was impounding a van near Long Beach. The van belonged to Jones’s wife, and she had been arrested for investigation of drunken driving.

Johnson has recovered from a head wound. In November he was elected Pacific County sheriff.

The lawyer for Jones says he was at home at the time of the shooting.
