Florida Atlantic defeats Troy 77-60 for 20th win

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Shavar Richardson scored 19 points as Florida Atlantic defeated Troy 77-60 on Thursday night to achieve its first 20-win season in 18 seasons of Division I play.

Richardson shot 6 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 7 on 3-pointers for the Owls (20-9, 12-3 Sun Belt Conference), who trailed for just 18 seconds in the game.

Greg Gantt’s 3-pointer gave Florida Atlantic a 39-29 lead with 18:43 remaining in the game and the Owls never led by fewer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Kore White added 13 points, Raymond Taylor had 11 points and seven assists and Brett Royster had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Florida Atlantic, the Sun Belt regular-season champion.

Vernon Taylor scored 16 points to lead the Trojans (8-19, 6-9), who also got 12 points and six assists from Will Weathers and 10 points and 11 rebounds from Bernard Toombs.
