GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) — ON Semiconductor plans to spend $30 million to upgrade and expand its Oregon computer chip factory in Gresham, adding up to 70 jobs.
The Oregonian reports the expansion is part of a $250 million investment by the Arizona company this year to improve its manufacturing capabilities.
Last month, the Portland newspaper reported that ON Semiconductor would shift some work from Japan to Gresham, following the company’s recent acquisition of Sanyo Electric Co.’s chip division.
Company officials said the Gresham facility, called a fab, currently employs 545 people and is already running near capacity.
